AN 18K GOLD MANUAL WIND WRISTWATCH Model: Santos Date: c. 1915 Movement: 18-jewel manual wind, No. 16308 Dial: Silvered Case: Cushion form, screwed back, No. 7817, 7533 Strap/Bracelet: Black leather Buckle/Clasp: Gilt buckle Signed: Case, dial and movement Size: 24.5mm x 34.5mm (including lugs) Accompaniments: None Footnotes: The Cartier Santos was one of the very first timepiece designed for men to wear on the wrist and in the air. It was named after the famous Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont, who met Louis Cartier in France and requested a readable watch while piloting. The design of the watch marked the significant shift from pocket watch and laid the foundation of Cartier's watchmaking style. The current example is in fairly well preserved condition, considering it being over 100 years old, with the numbers stamped the case back matching to the ones on inside case. This is a stunning and historical timepiece that will be worthy in any watch collection. *Please be advised that watch straps made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator and crocodile) are not sold with the watches and are for illustration purposes only.
