KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI (1760-1849), SAKAI HOITSU (1761–1828), AND OTHERS Edo period (1615-1868) to Meiji era (1868-1912), mid-19th to early 20th century 21 illustrated books of various sizes: the first and second book, volume one and 13, from Hokusai manga (Random Drawings by Hokusai) by Hokusai, originally published in 1814 and 1849 respectively, probably a later edition; the third titled Hokusai shashin gafu (Hokusai's Album of Pictures from Nature) by Hokusai, originally published in 1814, probably a Meiji-era edition; the fourth, volume two from Kachogaden (Pictures of Flowers and Birds) by Katsushika Taito, originally published in 1848, probably a later edition; the fifth, volume two, from Banko Hinagata gafu (Picture Pattern Books), artist unknown, dated 1886; the sixth, Hanzan gafu (Picture Book by Hanzan), by Matsukawa Hanzan, dated 1899, the seventh, Korin hyakuzu (One Hundred Paintings by Korin) by Sakai Hoitsu, published in 1897, (originally published 1815), the eighth, Ehon hayamanabi (A book of Quick Lessons in Painting) by Suzuki Nanrei, originally published in 1857, possibly a later edition; the ninth to 21st, 12 volumes from the Japanese Fairy Tale series, texts in English and Japanese, the tales including Momotaro (Peach Boy), Kachi-kachi Yama (Kachi-kachi Mountain) and Sarugani gassen (Battle of the Monkey and the Crab), the illustrators including Suzuki Kason, Tosa Matabei, and Kobayashi Eitaku, dated 1885; all variously published, some incomplete; together with a group of five small images cut out from illustrated books by Hokusai and Kitao Masayoshi.
