KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI (1760-1849), KITAGAWA UTAMARO (1754-1806), AND OTHERS Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century Two oban yoko-e shunga prints and four hanshibon-size shunga book plates: the first, an oban yoko-e by Hokusai, from the album Ehon Tsui no hinagata (Picture Book: Patterns of Couples) depicting a courtesan and her client making love, circa 1812; the second, an oban yoko-e depicting a man and an older woman making love beside a low screen decorated with autumnal flowers, the signature of the artist possibly on the screen; and five colour book plates by Utamaro, all from the book Michiyuki koi no futosao (On the Road: Love Songs for the Thick-Necked Shamisen), each depicting a famous couple inspired by Bunraku puppet dramas, circa 1802; all unsigned, except for the second; each in a card mount. The smallest: 20.9cm x 26.2cm (8 3/16in x 10 5/16in); the largest 26.5cm x 39cm (10 3/8in x15 5/16in). (7).
