A BIZEN STONEWARE MODEL OF A KORO (INCENSE BURNER) IN THE FORM OF A SHISHI (CHINESE MYTHOLOGICAL LION DOG) Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), mid-late 19th century Standing with its head lowered to the left and its curly tail upright, covered with an iron oxide glaze, varying in tone over the body, the head removable for the incense and forming the cover, unsigned; with a wood storage box inscribed on the lid Kobizen shishi koro, inside the lid signed Ichijosai with a seal. 11.5cm x 10cm (4½in x 4in).
