AN ARITA-WARE LARGE DISH WITH DUTCH POLYCHROME DECORATION Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1700 Painted in underglaze blue with a Chinese dignitary and a boy attendant holding a parasol on one side and two Chinese scholars on the opposite side looking at a fisherman in the foreground drawing in his net, two birds, one in flight and the second perched on flowering prunus beneath branches of pine in the middle background, subsequently decorated with polychrome enamels in Holland in the early 18th century, the underside with meandering tendrils; signed on the base with the auspicious fuku character within a square seal. 34.6cm (13 5/8in) diam.
