Starr) rose from relatively humble beginnings in Nothern California to become a titan of the global insurance industry as the founder of American International Group, inc. (AIG). Arriving in Shanghai by 1920, the young C.V. Starr took over an American run insurance company, which would evolve into the international giant AIG. His impact in Shanghai was profound and not limited to the insurance industry, as he would purchase two local newspapers, merging them into the Shanghai Evening Post and Mercury, which he published from 1931-1949, throughout the Japanese occupation. By 1955 the C.V.
