Springfield U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, 1891. Serial number 527551, .45-70 caliber, round blued steel barrel hooded blade front sight and tangent rear sight, the breech with 'V,' 'P' and eagle's head proof marks and inspector's marks 'A' and 'P,' the case colored door marked 'U.S./MODEL/1884'; flat lock plate marked in front of the cock with a spread wing eagle and 'U.S./SPRINGFIELD'; walnut stock with 'SWP/1891' cartouche on the left side and 'P' behind the trigger guard, attached steel finger rest, steel butt plate marked 'US,' sling swivels and rod bayonet; compartment in the butt contains original tools and cleaning equipment. Barrel lg. 32, overall lg. 52 in. Condition: Barrel bluing is transitioning to brown and has several surface scratches, trapdoor has trace of case coloring, stock has scattered mostly light dings, dents and blemishes, bright bore with sharp rifling, action functions properly.
