Gold Topped Henry M. Naglee Presentation Cane, New York, 1859. The cane with gold top engraved 'Henry M. Naglee/from his friend/Henry E. Robinson/N.Y. Sept. 1859.' with gold and iron tip. Overall lg. 36 3/4 in. Footnotes: Note Henry Morris Naglee (1815-1886) served as Captain of the 1st Regiment of New York Volunteers in the Mexican-American War commanding detachments in La Paz and fought in the Skirmish of Todos Santos. After the war Naglee became the first commanding officer of the 1st California Guards militia unit in San Francisco. He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the 16th U.S. Infantry in May of 1861, and then Brigadier General of Volunteers in June and given command of the IV Corps of the Army of the Potomac. He served at the Battle of Seven Pines. In 1863 he commanded the VII Corps and the District of Virginia and then mustered out of the army in 1864.
