Gobelet royal à jambe en verre gravé, Bohémie, vers 1711 A Bohemian royal engraved goblet, circa 1711 The round funnel bowl decorated with the with the Imperial double-headed eagle beneath a crown, within a cartouche of tied foliate branches, the reverse inscribed 'VIVAT/ CAROLUS' underlined with elaborate scrolled flourishes, raised on a tall multi-knopped stem with a central wide teared inverted baluster between an elaborate series of graduated knops and collars in Nuremberg style, the wide spreading foot with garland of flowers and neatly folded at the footrim, 30.8cm high (bowl repaired, two faint internal bruises to shoulder knop) Footnotes: Provenance: With Heide Hübner Kunsthandel, 2 November 1979 Christian von Reitzenstein Collection The inscription on the present goblet presumable relates to the coronation of Charles VI, who became the Holy Roman Emperor in 1711 following the death of Joseph I.
