A matched set of twelve George III and later mahogany dining chairs Nine chairs are late George III period (1795-1800), the other three chairs are apparently of a later date Four of the matched set of chairs have less carving and are of a very slightly different design to the other eight, including two armchairs, each with a tablet toprail above a vertical pointed arched splat formed of four ring turned reeded spindles and fan spandrels, on square tapering front legs terminating in spade feet, with square splayed rear legs, replaced arms to one of the armchairs, each armchair approximately: 54cm wide x 53.5 deep x 90cm high; each side chair approximately: 50.5cm wide x 50cm deep x 89cm high, (19 1/2in wide x 19 1/2in deep x 35in high) (12) Footnotes: Some designs for similar dining chairs to the offered examples, which date to approximately the same period, can be found amongst the drawings in the Gillow Estimate Sketch Books, City of Westminster Archive Centre. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
