An early Victorian porcelain and ormolu mounted writing table or table a ecrire In the French taste 1845-1860, mounted with Sevres style porcelain plaques of various proportions, painted with abundant flowers, fruit, exotic birds, trees and foliage within green reserves, the shaped three quarter galleried and tooled leather inset top above two short mahogany lined frieze drawers, flanked by acanthus clasped, volute scroll headed and bellflower cast angle mounts, on cabriole legs, 80.5cm wide x 46cm deep x 75cm high, (31 1/2in wide x 18in deep x 29 1/2in high) Footnotes: A related porcelain mounted table, one with comparable Sevres or Sevres style plaques, to those on the offered lot, sold Christie's, London, 23 May 2018, The Collector, lot 128. A further similar example appears illustrated in C. Payne, European Furniture of the 19th Century, 2013, Woodbridge, p. 288. The present table is redolent of a number of pieces of English porcelain mounted furniture executed in the French taste which were typically often retailed by Edward Holmes Baldock or the firm of Town and Emanuel during the period 1835-1860. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
