A Rare Cased Pair Of French 40-Bore Percussion Duelling Or Target Pistols By Le Page A Paris, No. 3155, Circa 1830 With reblued octagonal sighted barrels each signed in gold capitals within a double line gold oval, inscribed 'ACIER FONDU' and numbered '1' and '2' in gold respectively along the top flat, case-hardened breeches, border engraved tangs numbered '1' and '2' in gold respectively and decorated with foliage, enclosed actions, foliate engraved hammers, highly figured half-stocks each carved in relief with a scallop shell on the fore-end, chequered rounded butts each with oval ebony pommel carved as a laurel wreath and inset with a case-hardened steel cap engraved with foliage, spur trigger-guards each engraved with a symmetrical design of flower-heads, and border engraved trigger-plates each signed in gold within a gold oval set against an engraved crossed bow and quiver suspended from a ribbon: in original brass-mounted fitted wooden case veneered in burr-walnut, lined in faded blue velvet and red morocco leather with tooled and gilt borders, containing most of the original accessories including brass-mounted copper powder-flask, powder-measure, reblued bullet mould and bright steel oil bottle, the exterior of the lid (old repairs to veneer) with vacant oval brass escutcheon 21.8 cm. barrels Footnotes: Cf. a similar pair of pistols sold in these Rooms, Antique Arms, Armour & Modern Sporting Guns, 10 November 2022, lot 94 This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
