AN OVERSIZED ASYMMETRICAL CHROME PLATED MANUAL WIND MONOPUSHER WRISTWATCH WITH MILITARY MARKINGS, MADE FOR THE US ARMY Model: Type A-7, Avigation Reference: 27748 (Military Number) Date: Purchased 4th September, 1935 Movement: 17-jewel manual wind, No. 5'288'396 Dial: Black Case: Round, snap on case back, No. 5'288'396 Strap/Bracelet: Black leather Buckle/Clasp: Chrome plated buckle Signed: Case and movement Size: 48.5mm Accompaniments: Maker's Extract from the Archive Footnotes: This rare, oversized Longines 'Type A7' was invoiced in 1935 to the company A. Wittnauer Co. in the USA. It is an exceptional example of the 'Avigation Hack' Watch, built with a mono-pusher chronograph movement, caliber 18.72, produced by Longines and Meylan during the 1930s. Under the 'Specification No. 27748', the watch has an offset dial tilted at 40 degrees, a large crown and chronograph pusher so pilots can easily read the time and operate the watch wearing gloves. At 51mm diameter, the oversized chrome plated metal case is massive and retains its original crown. Its black dial with Arabic numeral shows incredibly strong proportions. This present example is accompanied by an Extract from the manufacturer, full military engravings on the case back, and U.S. Army engraved on the movement.
