An English porcelain plaque, probably depicting William Pitt the Younger, early 19th century Of circular form and pierced for suspension, painted with a portrait of a gentleman, thought to be William Pitt the Younger, in a brown coat, with white cravat and waistcoat, his wig worn en queue, within a gold border of ivy leaves or hearts, in a later gilt wood frame, plaque 12.5cm diam (excluding frame) Footnotes: William Pitt the Younger dominated parliament during the Napoleonic Wars, as did his rivalry with opponent James Fox. He served as Prime Minster between 1783 and 1801 and again between 1804 and his death in 1806. The likeness to William Pitt on the plaque can be seen in some of the many contemporary prints issued depicting the Prime Minister.
