A GOLD-SPLASHED BRONZE QUATREFOIL INCENSE BURNER Xuande six-character mark, 17th century The lobed vessel with tapering sides and raised slightly on four arched feet, flanked by a pair of handles, the body with a warm brown patina and irregular gold splashes. 17.5cm (6 7/8in) wide. The process could be repeated multiple times to gradually build up thicker layers of gold. See R. Kerr, Later Chinese Bronzes, London, 1990, p.39. The form of this piece is rare among gold-splashed bronze wares. Compare with a gilt-splashed bronze quatrefoil censer of similar shape but supported on four cabriole feet, 17th/18th century, which was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 4th October 2018, lot 132. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
