TWO TURQUOISE, GOLD, AND GLASS OFFICIAL EARRINGS Tibet, circa 1900 The two elongated earrings, each with a C-shaped hoop, inlaid with turquoise between granulated gold beads, with a baroque pearl at the midsection, terminating with a large pointed blue glass pendant imitating turquoise. The design of the earrings tends to combine the sacred and the secular in a subtle way, seen in the present lot with lotus petal designs flanking the pearls. See a similar official's earring, 19th century, illustrated by R.A.F.Thurman, Sacred Symbols: The Ritual Art of Tibet, New York, 1999, pp.68-69, pl.29.
