Plus Hand-select a Hillier Tree for your Own Garden An idyllic day of exploration beginning with a tour of the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey, Hampshire, personally guided by Robert Hillier OBE, director and fourth generation Hillier family member. Founded in 1864 by Edwin Hillier, Hillier Nurseries remains a family-run company with the fifth generation now at the helm of the business. Not only is Hillier the largest producer of semi-mature trees in Europe and grower of over one million plants at its Hampshire nursery, but it also employs over 1,000 staff across its nursery, amenity trees and 22 garden centres. Hillier proudly holds the world record for the most consecutive gold medals awards at the world famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show, with 74 wins. The exquisite arboretum covers 180 acres and is home to over 42,000 trees and shrubs. On your personal tour, Robert will impart tales of growing up in Jermyn's House (while his father planted the arboretum), and on to later times when the gardens were host to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, The Queen Mother and other significant visitors. Break with a relaxed lunch at the Garden Restaurant, soaking up spectacular vistas. Following the garden tour, visit nearby Hillier Broadmead Nursery for a behind-the-scenes 'tree safari' and quest to find the perfect mature tree to take home. A Hillier expert will be on hand to advise the best selection for your garden space and provide some interesting commentary on the workings of this thriving nursery. After an informative afternoon, and having found the tree you want to make your own, tag it to stake your claim. Your tree will be delivered directly to your home (delivery location will determine the maximum size of tree that can be selected).
