Vintage silver gelatin print photograph on 3 joined sheets, August 6-18, 1967, approximately 18 7/8 x 20 5/8 inches (480 x 525 mm), V-102-M, 'A KODAK PAPER' watermark and 'September 13, 1967' stamped on verso. Marked as site 26.1, but appears to be site 25 which is Alpine Valley. NASA's Lunar Orbiter program sent a series of 5 uncrewed probes over the period of a year to photograph the lunar surface in order to help select Apollo landing sites as well as to accurately map the Moon. The first three probes were dedicated to photographing 20 potential crewed landing sites and the fourth and fifth missions were high altitude orbits that contributed to capturing images of 99% of the lunar surface. The Lunar Orbiter spacecraft were each equipped with two cameras that simultaneously captured two different fields of view and resolutions, but on the same line of sight and recorded to a common supply of 70mm film. The cameras were part of a photographic system that also included a film processor and a readout scanner so the images could be transmitted to Earth.
