AN EARLY SCOTTISH BASKET HILTED BROADSWORD. c. 1700. The hilt with interconnecting branches converging beneath a low domed pommel with iron wire washer below the pein, grip with twisted iron wire wrapping; straight double-edge blade marked '1414' and with a chiseled running fox. Blade lg. ,31 3/4 overall lg. 36 3/4 in. Condition: Hilt toned to gray, grip wire wrapping is solid; blade has a cleaned mottled gray surface with areas of pitting and scattered nick on the edges.
