A PAIR OF ENGLISH FLINTLOCK PISTOLS, by Bumford, London, c. 1770-90. 9 3/4 in., .65 caliber octagon to round barrels engraved on the top 'Bumford London' and with private Tower proofs on the left side; flat lock plates with foliate engraved stepped tails, engraved 'Bumford' below the pans; walnut stock with flat sided grip, raised carving around the breech plug tang and oval silver thumb pieces; steel trigger guards with acorn finials and steel rammer pipes, wood rammer with horn tip. Overall lg. 15 in. Condition: Barrels and locks toned to mottled gray/brown; furniture toned to mottled gray; one pistol has a replaced cock and wood restoration to the fore end; the other has old cracks along the barrel channel and a small patch of wood repair near the muzzle on the right side; stocks generally have scattered dings and dents, actions function properly.
