A George III plaster figural torchiere by Humphry Hopper, dated 1807 together with a gilt-plaster figural candlestick, also by Humphrey Hopper, dated 1806, the torchiere 62cm high, the candlestick 39c mwide (2) Footnotes: Provenance: Christie's, London, South Kensington, 26 October 2016, The Hone Collection, lot 135. The sculptor and modeller Humphrey Hopper (1765-1844) entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1801. Hopper produced a number of plaster mythological figures, mostly Bacchic figures or muses, designed to hold lamps. For example, a set of four survive at Lancaster House, London. Hopper's most renowned national commission is the marble monument to General Hay (1814) in St Paul's Cathedral. Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
