Cecil Beaton (British, 1904-1980) Actors and actresses To include: a photograph of Noël Coward with Elisabeth Hijar on set for Present Laughter, Paris Revival Joyeux Chagrins, 1948, and another featuring Coward, Ernest Thesiger, Joyce Carey and Judy Campbell; a studio portrait of a model in a costume designed by Beaton for Noël Coward's Look After Lulu!, which premiered on Broadway in 1959; a later portrait of Ernest Thesiger (1879-1961) in profile; a studio portrait of Ruth Gordon as the titular role of Serena Blandish, circa 1929; one of the last studio portraits of Lillie Langtry (1853-1929), circa 1928; and another of Francesca Annis (b.1945), who played Langtry in the 1975 TV drama Edward the Seventh, and again in the 1979 Lillie; two further studio portraits of Gladys Cooper (1888-1971) and Nyree Dawn Porter (1936-2001); three portraits of Evelyn Laye (1900-1996); a portrait of the playwright, screenwriter and author Anita Loos (1888-1981); another of the ballerina Ninette de Valois (1898-2001); a portrait of lyricist and librettist Alan Jay Lerner (1918-1986); a picture of Irene Worth (1916-2002) gardening; a portrait of Cathleen Nesbitt (1888-1982) at Reddish House, August 1970; and one other, the majority gelatin silver prints, some possibly printed later, all with photographer's ink-stamp credit to reverse, one with stamp for 'Camera Press Ltd' (18) the largest: 29 x 24cm (11 7/16 x 9 7/16in) This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: Ω AR Ω VAT on imported items at the prevailing rate on Hammer Price and Buyer's Premium. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
