COOKERY & HOUSEHOLD - NORFOLK Recipe and commonplace book of Elizabeth L. Marshall (née Winlove) of King's Lynn, beginning with 30 leaves of writings on virtue, religion, love, envy etc. ('Woman's Revenge/ Is like a Tiger's spring/ Deadly, & quick & crushing'), the remainder written in several hands, comprising over 60 cookery and household receipts such as '...To cure a Ham... Globe Hotel, Kings Lynn, Dec 12th 1867...', 'Orange Brandy' ('...Very good... requires shaking or stirring...'), 'Worcester Pudding', 'Rhubarb Jam', 'Pork Pie crust', 'Ginger Wine', 'Calves Head Hash', 'To take Ink out of Linen', 'Oils for Horse Wounds', 'Drink for Cow before calving' etc., several receipts signed with initials ('E.L.M.'), ownership inscription and date 'Elizabeth L. Winlove/ 1842' on front free endpaper, 92 leaves, dust-staining and marks, black calf, g.e., worn, housed in a modern custom-made presentation box, 8vo (178 x 110mm.), nineteenth century Footnotes: RECIPES FROM THE GLOBE HOTEL, KING'S LYNN. The owner of our receipt book, Elizabeth Lucy Winlove (1823-1882) married Samuel Nicholas Marshall at Snettisham, Norfolk, in 1854, after working together at the Royal Hotel, Norwich where she was an accountant. The Register of King's Lynn Petty Sessions shows that Samuel Marshall became proprietor of Globe Hotel, Kings Lynn on 22 December 1863 and was advertising 'By Royal Appointment' on his letterhead by 1889. Described as a 'hotel keeper and farmer', he also held the lease of the Duke's Head in King's Lynn from June 1855 to Lady Day 1866. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
