Paris, Crapelet, chez Desray, An XI 1803, 2 works in 5 vol., half-titles, 42 engraved plates in hand-coloured and plain states (12 folding), one large folding engraved map (small marginal tear), some spotting and occasional offsetting to text, straight-grained red morocco gilt tooled with floral decoration on covers and spine, gilt dentelles, light blue silk endpapers gilt, rubbed (mostly to spine ends and corners), housed in morocco-backed book-form slipcase (faded), g.e. [Mendelssohnn I, 892 (first work only)], 8vo (5) Footnotes: FINE SET OF THE WORKS DESCRIBING LEVAILLANT'S TWO TRIPS TO AFRICA BETWEEN 1780 AND 1785 - WITH PLATES IN TWO STATES. The first Voyage contains 20 plates of indigenous people, flora and fauna and African landscapes, including many of Levaillant's encampments. Eight of these plates were not in the original 1790 edition. The second Voyage is illustrated with a large folding map of Africa and 22 plates. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
