A George II walnut and featherbanded kneehole desk or 'dressing buroe' of interesting configuration The quarter veneered top with re-entrant front angles, above one long shallow drawer with a tooled leather inset writing slide top flanked by two compartments enclosing later concave stationery trays, over one long oak lined drawer, with six short oak lined drawers flanking a door to the central recess, on shaped bracket feet, notable laminated blocking to the bracket feet, 78cm wide x 50cm deep x 75.5cm high, (30 1/2in wide x 19 1/2in deep x 29 1/2in high) Footnotes: Although the the offered lot is highly idiosyncratic due to its unorthodox twin frieze drawer configuration, a closely related example - albeit one veneered in burr yew - with a very similar layout of drawers sold Sotheby's, New York, 20 October 2021, lot 23. Clearly both the present kneehole desk and this comparable were supplied upon the specific demands of their respective patrons. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
