A good collection of novelty carved briar and other wood walking sticks and canes, the majority with comical caricature heads 19th century and later Comprising an impressive grotesque head cane of an old grinning man with glass eyes, another with tonsure style hair and inset bone eyes above a rusticated shaft, another of double headed form formed as grotesque bearded man wearing a top hat reversing to animal head, each with painted eyes, and another with crooked handle, the end carved with a smiling face with inset glass, nine further canes and sticks carved with exaggerated bearded or grotesque heads, some with inset glass or bone eyes, two carved horn grotesque head canes with 'beak' noses, and a similar carved wood cane with 'beak' nose, together with a cane carved to the handle with the figure of a moustachioed gentleman, the pommel formed as his bulbous hat, a carved cane with bud type rusticated handle, a stained wood folding cane, the crook handle with beaten gilt metal mount, and a folding shooting stick, the largest, 111cm long, the shortest, 83cm long (20) This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: TP TP For auctions held in Scotland: Lots will be moved to an offsite storage location (Constantine, Constantine House, North Caldeen Road, Coatbridge ML5 4EF, Scotland, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
