An interesting and unusual central European third quarter 19th century tulipwood, ebony, purplewood, rosewood, stained sycamore, fruitwood marquetry and parquetry casket Together with an early 20th century walnut, ebonised and fruitwood inlaid side table in the Louis XVI style; the casket most likely of French, German or Swiss origin The casket of tripartite form and with cube inlay overall, the hinged top with a central tablet of flowers, foliage and a bird within a feathered veneered surround encompassed by a lozenge pattern border, the panelled underside of the top inlaid with a scene depicting three men of rustic appearance and in 17th century attire drinking wine whilst seated at a table within an asymmetrical vine leaf trail surround, encompassed by intricate polychrome pattern inlaid borders, enclosing a divided lemonwood interior, flanked by two smaller end compartments with sloping hinged lids each inlaid to the underside with a bird on a branch, above a rosewood lined drawer, the table inlaid with a stylised key pattern frieze incorporating one front drawer and a short drawer to each end, on square tapering flute inlaid legs, the casket: 79cm wide x 38cm deep x 25cm high; the table: 83cm wide x 42cm deep x 70cm high, (32 1/2in wide x 16 1/2in deep x 27 1/2in high) (2) This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: TP Y TP For auctions held in Scotland: Lots will be moved to an offsite storage location (Constantine, Constantine House, North Caldeen Road, Coatbridge ML5 4EF, Scotland, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue.
