An impressive Regency amboyna, rosewood and calamander inlaid library table Circa 1820 The rounded rectangular quarter veneered top with a pattern inlaid border comprised of alternating ivy trails, floral tendrils and scrolled foliage, above two mahogany and cedar lined frieze drawers, each drawer with a stepped moulded lower edge, on elongated 'pelt-form' end supports, each carved with stylised flowerheads and foliage and flanked below by lotus leaf clasped scrolled corbels, terminating in four scroll eared and lotus leaf 'imbricated'-pattern downswept legs with rosette carved terminals, on brass castors, 156cm wide x 69cm deep x 73.5cm high, (61in wide x 27in deep x 28 1/2in high) Footnotes: The border inlay on the top of the present lot appears reminiscent of the type of inlay often employed by the cabinet maker George Bullock (c. 1777-1818). In fact many of Bullock's inlaid pattern designs, and certainly the most significant ones, form part of the celebrated Wilkinson tracings. These tracings are the most important source relating to the output of George Bullock, and are housed at the City Museums and Art Gallery, Birmingham. They are compiled together in what is essentially a scrapbook comprising an assortment of engravings produced by Thomas Wilkinson either directly from, or based upon, designs by Bullock. This was evidently done in 1820 (which is the date of the inscription on its first page), and this is significant since it was two years after the latter's death, C. Wainwright et al, G. Bullock, Cabinet-Maker, 1988, London, pp.'s 13-14.
