An unusual Victorian novelty silver condiment / inkwell probably Thomas Johnson II, London 1885 Realistically modelled as a portly Gentleman reading a 'double-headed letter' whilst seated in an upholstered arm chair, the hinged head opening to reveal a welled interior, on a square base with simulated rug detail, the rim impressed 'WHERE CAN THAT BE FROM, BINJIMIN?', height 9cm, weight 9.2oz. Footnotes: 'WHERE CAN THAT BE FROM, BINJIMIN?' is from the second line in Chapter VII Mr Jorrocks, from the book Handley Cross; or, Mr. Jorrocks's Hunt. By Robert Smith Surtees.
