Inscribed Portland Vase Book, England, tooled leatherbound book with inscription 'One of the vases described in the book was presented to my uncle Thomas Poole, Esquire, of blank in the county of Somerset together with this book by Josiah Wedgwood in the year 1790. It was used by Mr. Poole for a period of nearly 50 years as a mausoleum for a lock of Washingtons hair, which is now lost, on the death of Mr. Poole September 1837 it was left by him to a dear and literary friend of his John Kenyon, Esquire, of Saint Peter's, Cambridge, author (of something?) On the death of Mr. Kenyon it was left by him to Archdeacon Landford, who married Mr. Pozole's niece, Elizabeth Poole, it came into my commission in May 1871 by purchase Archdeacon Langford for the sum of 150 pounds. For another record of the vase Eliza Meteyards life of Wedgwood volume two. Signed Richard Poole King Bristol, 7 August 1877 the following page is signed to Mr. Thomas Poole from his sincere friend Josiah Wedgwood', 8 x 9 3/4 in. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories excluding Arms & Armour, Coins and Medals, Motor Cars, Motorcycles, Wine & Whisky
28% on the first $50,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of $50,000 up to and including $1,000,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of $1,000,000 up to and including $6,000,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of $6,000,000.
A 3rd-party bidding platform fee (the "3rd-party bidding platform fee") equal to 4% of THE BID PRICE shall be payable by buyers whose successful bid is submitted via 3rd-party bidding platforms, including Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
