A rare English delftware spirit flask, mid-18th century Probably Bristol, in the form of a barrel, the ends tapered, a central bung hole set in a rectangular boss, with powder manganese decoration, 15cm long Footnotes: Provenance Graham Slater Collection Three related examples are illustrated by Frank Briton and tentatively attributed to Bristol, see English Delftware in the Bristol Collection (1982), figs.15.61-63. Michael Archer discusses these and a powder blue example in the Victoria & Albert Museum, which he suggests could be London, see Delftware (1997), p.278, E.22. Larger, finely-painted spirit flasks are attributed to Henry Delamain's factory, Dublin but there is no reason to suggest this shape was uniquely Irish. Indeed, barrel flasks of the size of the present lot became staple products of the Bristol Pottery from later in the 18th century. Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
