A rare Liverpool tin-glazed stoneware teapot and cover, circa 1755-60 Of globular shape, a nipped kick at the lower handle terminal, painted in blue with a hut on an island below a scrollwork border, feathering along the handle and spout, 11.8cm high (2) Footnotes: Provenance Jonathan Horne Antiques, June 1993 Graham Slater Collection The technique of applying a thin tin-glaze to stoneware prior to salt-glazing would appear to be particular to Liverpool. This so-called 'delftstone' is discussed by Alan Smith, Made in Liverpool, NCS exhibition catalogue, 1993, p.24-25. A teapot of similar profile, with the same distinctive lower handle terminal was exhibited and is illustrated at p.65, fig.44.
