An English delftware posset pot and a bowl, circa 1710-40 Painted in red, green and blue, the posset possibly Bristol or Vauxhall, of bellied form with broad strap handles, decorated with stylised flower sprays, a formal scrolled border to the rim, 13.3cm high, the bowl probably Bristol, painted to the interior with a central rosette with distinctive rhomboidal leaves, within a lozenge border, a panelled diaper band below the sponged blue undulating piecrust rim, 23.3cm diam (2) Footnotes: Provenance With Martyn Edgell Antiques (posset) Graham Slater Collection Compare the decoration on the posset to the Bristol or Vauxhall punchbowl sold by Bonhams on 19 June 2024, lot 235, the interior of which has similar decoration to the interior of an example illustrated by Michael Archer, Delftware (2013), p.240, no.F.13. Related decoration in this palette was also used at Bristol and Brislington. Bowls of this shape were made in Bristol and Wincanton. Two bowls of similar form painted in an identical palette with distinctive lozenge borders and foliage with rhomboidal brushstrokes are illustrated by Michael Archer, Delftware (1997), p.295-6, nos.F23 and F24.
