Four interesting printed creamware jugs and a teapot, late 18th century The jugs of ovoid shape with strap handles, comprising a rare Liverpool-printed example of generous size, printed in red with 'AN EAST VIEW OF Liverpool Light House and Signals on Bidstone Hill. 1793', the reverse with a scene of a couple titled 'COURTSHIP', the rest printed in black, comprising a Sunderland example with a detailed print titled 'an east view of the Iron Bridge erected over the wear near SUND...', signed Edward Barker, inscribed 'Richd, & Ellen Banester/ Hannah Coultherbank/ May 29th 1798' in black enamel, the reverse with 'THE FORTUNE HUNTER / THE RICH WIDOW', an armorial example printed to both sides with 'THE MERCHANT TAYLORS ARMS', the last with 'Come Box the Compass' and a ship, the teapot of cylindrical form, with a three-masted whip in full sail, the reverse inscribed with a verse from The Sailor's Farewell 'When This you see, remember me...', the shoulder with a husk border in black enamel, tallest 19.5cm high (5) Footnotes: Provenance With Gabor Cossa Antiques, 1997 (armorial jug) With Garry Atkins, 2004 (Sunderland jug) Graham Slater Collection The lighthouse at Bidston Hill, one of the highest points on the Wirral, guided ships into the Mersey and the signals alerted those at the docks to which particular merchant's ship was approaching. Slight variations of this print dated 1788 and 1789 were exhibited by the Northern Ceramics Society, Made in Liverpool (1993), pp.120-1, nos.181 and 183. The 1788 example lists 44 flag combinations and the 1789 example 51 combinations. The present example lists 56. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
