Hsu, 1930-2019)伉儷舊藏,繼由後人遞藏 Born in Shanghai in 1923, Immanuel Chung-Yue Hsu came to the United States for post graduate studies, receiving his doctorate from Harvard University. Later a Research Fellow at Harvard's East Asian Research Center (1955-1958), Dr. Hsu taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara, until his retirement in 1991, then holding the title of Professor Emeritus. Dr. Hsu's The Rise of Modern China, first published in 1970 and currently in its sixth revised edition, is considered a fundamental text for students of later Chinese history, having been translated from English into several languages. Dr. Dolores M Hsu also taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara, in the department of Music. 徐中約於1923年生於上海,畢業於燕京大學,後赴美國哈佛大學東亞研究所進修,並於1954年獲博士學位,曾任教於美國加州大學聖塔芭芭拉分校歷史系至1991年,繼為該校榮休教授。徐中約博士的著作《中國近代史》(The Rise of Modern China)初版於1970年,經過六次修訂並翻譯成多語種,如今被視為研究近代中國史最重要的基礎教科書之一。其妻杜樂思博士 (Dr. Dolores M.
