[Apollo 12] LM THRUSTER AND THE OCEAN OF STORMS HORIZON: seen from the LM pilot window between EVAs Alan Bean, 14-24 November 1969, post EVA 1 Printed 1969. Vintage chromogenic print on fibre-based Kodak paper [NASA image AS12-47-7017]. With 'A Kodak Paper' watermarks on the reverse, numbered 'NASA AS12-47-7017' in red in the top margin (issued by NASA Manned Spacecraft Centre, Houston, Texas). 20.3 x 25.4 cm. (8 x 10 in.) Historical context A Glimpse from the Lunar Module—Colour Before Black & White This stunning colour photograph, taken by Alan Bean from his right-hand LM Pilot window, captures a rare view of the Ocean of Storms after its first exploration by humans. Shot just before changing film for the next extravehicular activity, this image is one of the last colour frames before the astronauts switched to black-and-white film for EVA-2. The S-band antenna, used for long-range communication with Earth, stands prominently in the foreground, with scattered craters visible beyond the LM thrusters. The lunar horizon, to the right of the research site, extends in the background, offering a breathtaking perspective. This photograph serves as a quiet moment of reflection from within the Intrepid, a contrast to the demanding lunar explorations outside.
