Apollo 15 Commander David Scott steps onto the deck of the USS Okinawa and is greeted by Dr. Robert R. Gilruth, Director of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Centre, after completing the first great voyage of exploration to another world. Behind Scott, Command Module Pilot Al Worden and Lunar Module Pilot Jim Irwin descend from the recovery helicopter, marking the successful return of the crew from their groundbreaking expedition to the Hadley-Apennine region of the Moon. Apollo 15, the first of the extended 'J missions,' set new milestones in lunar exploration, including the first use of the Lunar Rover and the first deep-space EVA.
