[Apollo 9] STAND-UP EVA: David Scott emerging through CSM's Gumdrop hatch, seen from docked LM Spider at sunset James McDivittt, 3-13 March 1969 Printed 1969. Numbered 'NASA AS9-20-3054' in red in the top margin, with 'A Kodak Paper' watermark on the reverse (issued by NASA Manned Spacecraft Centre, Houston, Texas). 20.3 x 25.4 cm. (8 x 10 in.) Historical context Taken by James McDivitt with the Hasselblad Super Wide camera and its wide-angle 38mm lens from the rendezvous window of LM Spider docked to CSM Gumdrop, this exceptionally rare photograph shows David Scott as he partially emerged for a stand-up EVA in the hatch of the orbiting Gumdrop, remaining tethered to the spacecraft via a life-support umbilical system. A 16mm DAC camera can be seen mounted to the hatch to Scott's left. The awe-inspiring limb of Earth at sunset is just visible to the left of Gumdrop. David Scott performed another stand-up EVA on Apollo 15 but this time on the surface of the Moon when he opened the top hatch of the LM to observe the lunar landscape after landing.
