A STRIKING, LARGE EARLY AVIATION PHOTO, INSCRIBED BY CLAUDE GRAHAME-WHITE, who dominated the 1910 Harvard-Boston meet, winning the grand prize for his twice around flight around Boston Light, as well as four first place finishes and three second place, for a total of $22,000 in prizes. The Harvard-Boston Aero meet was the first Aero meet on the East Coast of the United States, and was supposed to run from September 3-13, 1910, but was extended two additional days to accommodate the exuberant interest of the fans. Claude Grahame-White, an Englishman, stood apart from his counterparts, a glamorous celebrity in a field that tended to be dominated by engineers: 'Here, finally, was a charismatic performer, different from the grim-faced fliers who were more scientists than showmen' (Mortimer).
