Art education in Myanmar is often passed down through mentorship, and he has taught several generations of younger artists. He was a student of the late U Thein Han. U Lun Gywe is known for the dynamism of his paintings and his masterly blending of colours. He is a versatile painter, although his favourite subject over the years has been female beauty, sometimes figurative and at other times tending towards abstraction. The painting Incense and Fire in this auction skilfully depicts a gathering of ladies playing with incense and fire - painted from his imagination - and demonstrates the dynamism and blending of colour for which he is so admired.
