English School, circa 1780 Portraits of Captain Nicholas Eaton Monins RN and Richard Monins, subsequently known as Eaton (according to labels on the reverse), and of two young boys presumed to be from the Monins family a set of four, oil on canvas, one laid down on board, ovals 31.2 x 25.2cm (12 5/16 x 9 15/16in). (4) framed: 43 x 37cm Footnotes: Provenance The sitters and thence by descent to the present owner Captain Nicholas Eaton, Mayor of Dover, was the father of Mary Eaton, who married Thomas Monins, father of John, William and Richard (aka Eaton). The latter (who died in 1770) took the name Eaton at the request of his cousin, Peter Eaton of Woodford in Essex and became Rector of Charlton and Ringwould on the death of his father. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
