Merab Gagiladze (Georgian, born 1972) Inanna signed in Latin (lower left); further signed and dated '2025' (verso) oil on canvas 60 x 50cm (23 5/8 x 19 11/16in). unframed Footnotes: Provenance Artist's Collection Art Gallery Noblesse According to Sumerian mythology, Inanna, the goddess of love, sensuality, fertility, and also of war, chose to visit her sister Ereshkigal, the queen of the underworld. She soon learned that the underworld had strict laws: to pass through each gate, she must relinquish an item of power. By the time she reached the throne room of Ereshkigal, she would stand naked and powerless, unable to resist her own execution. The artwork depicts the scene of Inanna standing at the first gate. Though still adorned in rich garments and jewellery, this act marks the start of her transformation from a powerful goddess to a vulnerable figure stripped of divine protection. The painting captures not just a physical action but the myth's deeper themes of power and transformation, setting the stage for one of the oldest resurrection myths in human history. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
