A gold, enamel and diamond set presentation medallion unmarked Circular form with applied red and blue enamel shield to the centre flanked by crowned eagles, with inset rose cut diamond, the obverse with presentation inscription 'EL CONCEJO PROVINCIAL DE LIMA AL EXCMO SIR ERIC DRUMMOND SECRETARIO GENERAL DE LA SOCIEDAD DE LAS NACIONES HUESPED ILUSTRE DE LA CIUDAD MCMXXXI', in original fitted box, inside cover stamped with retailer 'J Salinas L, JOYERO-GRABADOR LIMA PERU', diameter 5.7cm, weight total 115.7gms. Footnotes: With accompanying GCS metal report, stating the medallion as 15 carat gold. Provenance James Eric Drummond, 16th Earl of Perth; thence by descent James Eric Drummond (1876-1951), the 16th Earl of Perth, was a British diplomat who was the first Secretary-General of the League of Nations from 1920 to 1933. Eric Drummond was David Perth's father. He entered the Foreign Office in 1900 and rose to be private secretary to the prime minister, Herbert Asquith, in 1912–15; private secretary to the foreign secretary, Sir Edward Grey, in 1915–16; and private secretary to Grey's successor, A. J. Balfour, in 1916–18. He accompanied Balfour as a member of the British War Mission to the United States in May 1917. It was while he was working for Grey that he first met 'Colonel' Edward House, President Wilson's foreign affairs advisor with whom he developed a close relationship. He served on the British Delegation to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, working closely with House, and was appointed as the founding Secretary General of the League of Nations, on Clemenceau's suggestion, in which role he served until 1933. Drummond succeeded in building a largely cohesive international staff from over 30 countries, all of whom were appointed by the League and not by national governments. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
