Gerald Benney A rare silver and gem set centrepiece / rosebowl London 1967, underside also stamped GERALD BENNEY LONDON Open-work centre with eight graduated tapering curved sections joining to form a stylised cross gammadion, with textured surfaces and sides, clusters of tourmalines set in graduated tubes, the whole centred with a square heddonite (hiddenite), all within a polished border, the shallow circular base with light hammered surface, with a box, diameter 21cm, weight 44.5oz. Footnotes: Gerald Benney invented this type of centrepiece bowl, he produced varying unique designs of these over four decades. Most of these were one-off commissions by private patrons and institutions. Biography GERALD BENNEY CBE RDI (1930-2008) Gerald Benney was one of the most outstanding goldsmiths of the 20th century. With works being continuously produced for over fifty years, from private commissions to mass production. Born in Hull, Yorkshire, in 1930, Benney received many commissions from the Royal Family and was the first craftsman to hold four Royal Warrants simultaneously: from HM The Queen, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales. Property of a Private Collector Sold in these rooms, Bonhams, Knightsbridge, Silver and Objects of Vertu including Post-War Silver, 15th May 2007. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
