Tim Rawlinson 'Impasto' Cast glass, with blown glass infusions, cut and polished. 35 cm high, 22 cm wide, 10 cm deep Footnotes: Biography Tim Rawlinson studied Ceramics and Glass at Buckinghamshire New University, having previously studied Architecture at Brighton University. Graduating in 2011, he exhibited his degree work at New Designers. Here, he met Peter Layton for the first time and was subsequently invited to London Glassblowing for work experience. He has been an invaluable member of the team, setting up and managing the cold studio. Over the past few years Tim has established himself internationally as a leading glass artist. He supplies a number of major glass galleries in the US with recent showings in Florida and New York City. His work is currently in very high demand internationally. His 2018 solo show at London Glassblowing, Kumano Kudo, was a commercial and critical success and his artwork has been shown annually at Collect Art Fair since 2015. He has also been included in Europe's most prestigious exhibitions: the Coburg Prize for Contemporary Glass in 2014 and the International Glass Prize at the GlazenHuis in 2015. Tim has created his own language with his simple geometric forms, using a combination of blown, cast and polished techniques. His fascination with the relationship between light and glass heavily influences his work, leading him to develop the transparent quality of the medium. The refractive qualities of glass in Tim's complex pieces create optical illusions, shadows and reflections. This manipulation and distortion of both colour and form challenge the viewer's perceptions, creating an architecture of light and colour. Tim has observed that society moves at an alarmingly rapid pace, often demanding instant solutions. His work aims to communicate our intellectual and spiritual need to slow down and revel in our experiences. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: † † VAT at the prevailing rate on Hammer Price and Buyer's Premium.
