A RARE GREENISH-GREY JADE 'LONGEVITY' INKSTONE 1600-1800 Unusually carved in the form of a cicada, the underside intricately decorated in varying levels of relief with formalised cloud scrolls, all supported on three raised points to provide a tripod stand, the stone of translucent light greyisy tone. 9.7cm (3 3/4in) long Footnotes: 1600至1800年 青灰玉蟬紋硯 Provenance: Acquired in Asia in April 2016 來源: 2016年4月入藏於亞洲 The cicada has long been esteemed for its symbolism of longevity and its connection to ancient cultures, evident in its frequent presence in burial practices and as a decorative motif on ancient bronzes.
