Original edition, dedicated almost exclusively (496 p.) to the nouveaux essais sur l'entendement humain, text written between 1703 and 1705, in response to the work of John Locke "Essay concerning human understanding". The author postponed his publication when he was aware of Locke's death because he considered it unacceptable to attack the ideas of someone who could not defend himself. Very clean specimen, entire spotted calf bindingof te time, slightly tired, with crumbled corners and weak joints, conserving the original guards on marbled paper. Brunet, III, 950.
