First English-language edition of a piece initially banned in the UK. The author (1854-1900), famous writer, poet and playwright of Irish origin, decided to publish it in Paris, in 1893, in the original version written in French, where he was taken to the scene in 1894 with Sarah Bernhardt as protagonist. That same year, the play was published in London, in this edition, with the translation of Lord Alfred Douglas and illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898). Interestingly, the illustrator, demonstrating his aversion by Wilde, represented it in a caricatural way in four of the 13 illustrations of the book. On the verso of the Anterolface, the following justification: of this edition 500 copies have been printed for England. However, the edition will have a total circulation of 875 copies. Very clean specimen, blue canvas lined with the editor's binding, slightly discoloured, with protective case (later).
