Buddha-Stele Höhe: 93 cm. Indien, Nalanda, 9./ 10. Jahrhundert. Bedeutende Stele eines sitzenden Buddha Shakyamuni in schwarzem Chloritstein (Black Stone). Auf flachem, doppeltem Lotosthron sitzend, darunter ein Säulensockel mit zwei wachenden Löwen. Buddha ist in ein einfaches, faltenreiches Mönchsgewand gekleidet, die Hände in varamudra, dem Gestus der Erdanrufung gehalten. Flankiert von Apsaras und zwei angedeuteten Stupas ist der Kopf umgeben von einem Nimbus, darüber ein Baldachin aus Blattwerk. Alterssp., leicht best., Steinpatina.
