Marmortorso einer Herkulesstatue, provinzialrömisch, 2. - 3. Jhdt. Provinzialrömische Statue des Herkules im Kontrapost, das Löwenfell über die Linke gelegt, in der Hand die Äpfel der Hesperiden haltend. Die Rechte hielt ursprünglich eine Keule. Ein den rechten Oberschenkel mit dieser verbindender Steg ist noch im Ansatz erkennbar. Muskulatur in provinziellem Stil übertrieben dargestellt. Vorbild für den Typus waren klassizierende Herkulesstatuen des Hellenismus, wie die vergoldeten Bronzestatuen vom Forum Boarium in Rom und dem Theater in Pompeji, deren Eleganz hier jedoch nicht erreicht wird und einer anderen Auffassung gewichen ist. Partiell leichte Bestoßungen, insbesondere der linken Hand, außerdem Versinterungen. Oberfläche des erhaltenen Torsos sonst sehr gut erhalten. Auf Steinsockel montiert. Höhe ohne Sockel 36 cm, mit Sockel 48 cm. Privatbesitz. Erworben in den 1990er Jahren bei Lui de Lauro Ltd. in London.Zustand: II - III A provincial Roman marble torso from a statue of Hercules, 2nd - 3rd century Provincial Roman statue of Hercules standing in contrapposto, the lion's skin draped over the left arm, the hand holding the apples of the Hesperides. The right hand originally held a club. The base of a crosspiece connecting the right thigh to the hand still discernible. The outlines of the muscles disproportionately portrayed in provincial style. This type was modelled on the classicised Hercules statues of the Hellenistic period like the gilt bronze statues in the Forum Boarium in Rome and the theatre in Pompeii, the elegance of which is not attained here and gives way to a different concept. Minimal knocks in places, the left hand particularly affected, also some sintering. The surface of the preserved torso otherwise in excellent condition. Mounted on a stone pedestal. Height without pedestal 36 cm, with pedestal 48 cm. Private collection. Acquired at Lui de Lauro Ltd. in London during the 1990s.Condition: II - III
